Natsu is a large, powerful, and confident male with fantastic nerve. He is a dog who is always ready and never needs to warm up. He can go from passed out to flashy obedience or a bite with one word. He enjoys the fight and hates to lose. Despite this he also has a fantastic work ethic and is not a sharp dog. He is a hard, tough dog with a high tolerance, willing to take hard hits and continue powering forward yet he is not hard on his handler. He is incredibly forgiving to handler mistakes/corrections and will always choose to avoid conflict with you if allowed but also has enough self respect to stand his ground if you are unfair and pressing. He strikes hard and full with a notable bite. He has a unbeatable work ethic, is always an eager and willing partner always trying to do right by his handler, and enjoying thriving in new challenges. He tends to be aloof but accepting of strangers, simply choosing to tune them out even as they pet him. He's incredibly clear headed with a high threshold. He is a dog who thinks for himself and does not feed off of his environment or others. He is incredibly reliable, loyal, driven, curious, and stable. He lives on a ranch with many other animals, dogs, and kids. Children are his weak spot as he has always had a natural affinity for children which he passes onto his offspring. He also showed strong in herding sheep despite starting at 6 years old and became my everyday working dog on the ranch. He has helped me manage a huge variety of livestock and has proven himself to be gritty even with the nastier critters. I stopped working him on cattle because he was too willing to take them on without heeding for his own safety despite having been ran over on multiple occasions. He has produced several offspring who have also been successful in herding as well.
Natsu has been an incredibly invaluable asset not only to our program but to our family and will forever set a high standard for what we aim for in our dogs. What we fail to mention in his description is his years of work as Celeste's diabetic alert service dog. Natsu proved to be incredibly reliable and always handled every situation with a level head and clear mind. He is a true jack of all trades.
We would like to thank the kind and extremely knowledgeable Linda Shaw for critiquing our dogs. If you want learn about German Shepherd conformation and functionality she is extremely well educated.
"I have been asked to give my opinion of this male, based on a series of photographs. I have not seen him in life.
He appears to be a well balanced, short coupled male, size unknown. Dark sable, slightly longish coat, normal bone. He has a nice head and expression, could perhaps be a bit stronger through the muzzle. Ears look a bit small and a bit wide set. Dark eye. Bite and teeth unknown. His neck looks long and well set. His withers are acceptable, but I prefer slightly higher withers. The irregularity behind his withers I presume is wavy coat. His back is short and straight. His shoulder appears normal, with normal forechest. He appears slightly deep through the chest, which is accentuated by the heavy coat. Feet are difficult to see in the grass, but appear strong, with normal pasterns. He looks to be in athletic condition. Good rear angulation, strong hocks. His croup (and pelvis) appears slightly steep, and his tail set looks to be normal to low. He seems to me to be a very nice male."
